The Water Vipers aims to be the most high performing "twice-per-week" dragon boat team in Toronto. We aspire to be the best dragon boat crew without having to sacrifice other commitments in life.
Do you have what it takes to be a Viper! We're now recruiting for the 2016 season! We are looking for experienced paddlers and/or fitness lovers who aren't afraid of too much spunk.
We are committed at doing more with less, by striving for efficient training with effective methods, to deliver consistently high performing results. With A Division in our sights, we train with a mindset guided by focused training that screams quality over quantity.
Our long term goals include:
With the Water Vipers, everything we do is inspired by our core values. Fitness. Inclusiveness. Growth. Development. And Passion. Like a compass, these values guide us and help determine what we do and who we are.
Less is more.
The Water Vipers are proudly sponsored by Afterburn, a one-of-kind facility that's redefining the dragon boat experience in Toronto. The gym boasts of GTA's only indoor dragon boat pool and a 2000 sq. ft. strength and conditioning space.
The Water Vipers and Afterburn share similar values, in that both entities work effectively, efficiently and sustainably. We also happen to share the same founder, capitano Andrew Liew.
Daniel is our paddling clinic coach. Daniel has been paddling dragon boat for 8 years and competed in the Club Crew championships in Macau and Hong Kong, and represented Canada in Hungary with the Canadian National Premier team in 2013. He is a world champion paddler and a 4 time world medallist. Formerly a paddler for Slipstream, he currently paddles with NDRC, one of the top dragon boat teams in Canada. Danny's diverse experience has exposed him to many coaches, learn many different coaching styles and subsequently allowing him to approach dragon boat from multiple perspectives. Danny is an Engineer by trade and has the ability to explain how various aspects of the stroke contribute to boat speed and efficiency. He is very analytical and enjoys teaching new paddlers as well as fine tuning experienced ones. Passionate about dragon boat, Daniel has been a volunteer co-coach for several years, and has also been coaching his own teams out of Sunnyside Paddling Club.
Our land training is taught by Strength Coach Khanh Vy. Khanh is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach with the NSCA as well as a Certified Athletic Therapist with the CATA. He brings performance and injury prevention tactics to address the demands of Dragon boating. As a paddler himself, he understands the sport through and through. Some of the teams he's worked with include Slipstream, NDRC, The Water Vipers and York Seawolves.
